ITQB NOVA and FCSH NOVA produce science radio show

National broadcast program features portuguese researchers

Instituto de Tecnologia Química e Biológica António Xavier (ITQB NOVA), Faculdade de Ciências Sociais e Humanas (FCSH NOVA), both from Universidade Nova de Lisboa, and national radio Antena 1, with support from Novartis, have produced the national radio show “90 segundos de ciência”/ "90 seconds of science", that will start being aired on November 21st, at 18h58.

90 seconds of science wants "to show the research we are doing in Portugal, and contribute to the increase of scientific literacy”, according to Cláudio M. Soares, ITQB NOVA dean. “Our two institutions have been collaborating for the Master in Science Communication, from where the idea and the concept for this program came from”, added Francisco Caramelo, FCSH NOVA dean.

The presentation of the program will take place at Faculdade de Ciências Sociais e Humanas, in Lisbon, on November 21st, at 6pm. Free entrance, registration mandatory.

This joint Science Communication project includes a daily science show, broadcast by Antena 1 at 6:58 pm, repeating the next morning, monday to friday for a year, with a total of 261 editions. The podcast and additional material will be available on the website www.90segundosdeciencia.pt, and through facebook and twitter.

In each episode, a different portuguese researcher will talk about their work. All scientific areas will be covered, from Physics to Architecture, Biology to Political sciences, featuring researchers working in Portugal and abroad.

The program is coordinated by António Granado (FCSH NOVA), Joana Lobo Antunes (ITQB NOVA) and Paulo Nuno Vicente (FCSH NOVA), professors in the Master in Science Communication, Universidade Nova de Lisboa.
