One year of Portuguese science on the radio
Oeiras, 21.11.2017
Today, science daily radio program "90 Segundos de Ciência" celebrates 1 year with the announcement that it will continue to broadcast science for another year. This show has been giving voice to scientists, working in Portugal and abroad, in all scientific areas. Since 21st November 2016, 261 programs have aired on Antena 1 with researchers from Biomedicine, Engineering, Technology, Communication, History, Archeology, Education, Sport, Geography, Chemistry, among others.
The program is produced by Instituto de Tecnologia Química e Biológica António Xavier (ITQB NOVA) and Faculdade de Ciências Sociais e Humanas (NOVA FCSH), both from Universidade Nova de Lisboa, and Antena 1, with the support from Novartis.
"90 Segundos de Ciência" is broadcast on Antena 1, at 18h58 and repeats the next day at 10h58, monday to friday. Each program is also on air daily through RDP Internacional and RDP África, taking portuguese science to all parts of the world. All programs are available online at RTP Play and 90 Segundos de Ciência dedicated website, where more multimedia material about the projects and the researchers can be found.
"It was a challenge to trace all these researchers, since we wanted to map portuguese science all over the country. We had the help of Science Communication Officers, in research institutes, faculties and Universities" says Joana Lobo Antunes, head of ITQB NOVA Communication Office and one of the coordinators of the program. "This program was only possible due to our institutes, that have cherished this project since its inception. Then, we were able to gathered a team to make it happen, and 261 shows afterwards we are ready to work for another 261".
"We are very proud to have been hosting this project since the beginning, and contributing to the increase of scientific literacy by showing the research we are doing in Portugal”, said Cláudio M. Soares, ITQB NOVA dean. “We and our partners, FCSH NOVA, Antena 1 and Novartis, will continue to support this project and we are looking forward to see it grow to other platforms".
