Welcome MolBioS 2016 Students

This week, new students at ITQB are getting ready to start their PhD. With the official start scheduled for January 7, the first year of the PhD Program in Molecular Biosciences begins.

MolBioS is a flexible state-of-the-art research oriented program that fills the gap between molecules and living systems, training students in molecular approaches needed to understand the mechanisms of life. This FCT-funded program is coordinated by ITQB and has also the participation of Instituto de Biologia Experimental e Tecnológica (IBET), Faculdade de Ciências e Tecnologia (UNL) and the Instituto Gulbenkian de Ciência (IGC).

On the opening day, students will be welcomed by ITQB Director, Cláudio Soares and PhD Program Coordinator, Mariana Gomes de Pinho. The session includes brief presentations on the research activities of participating institutions and an introduction to the PhD program. Adriano O. Henriques and Carlos Romão will close the morning session with their perspective on research and the PhD.

This first day also aims to help students learn about the ins and outs of life as a PhD student at ITQB; testimonies from current students and visits to the different services are among the planned activities. 

The course modules start next Monday with the Program Core Units.
