Title: The power of light: how PIFs regulate plant development
Speaker: André Cordeiro
Abstract: Light and temperature are closely related. Thus, plants evolved receptors that integrate both signals (photo and thermos-sensors). In the model plant Arabidopsis thaliana, phytochrome B (phyB) activity is modulated by temperature and light, and consequently their downstream targets, the Phytochrome-Interacting Factors (PIFs). This mechanism represents a way to fine tune development according to both external cues. However, the study of the cross-talk between light and temperature in crops such as rice is scarce. Here, I will talk about the tools we are developing and our latest findings about which rice PIFs are more important for development mediated by light and temperature.
