Title: Unravel structure and functional details of enzymes involved in lignin valorization

Abstract: Biocatalysis is considered a key component for the development of a sustainable bio-economy. Enzymes are sustainable, selective and efficient, and offer a variety of benefits suchas cleaner reactions with lower energy requirements. Lignin-degrading enzymes (laccases and peroxidases) and auxiliary enzymes (carbohydrate oxidases) have gained increased attention for their valuable biotechnological applications especially in the pre-treatment of recalcitrant lignocellulosic biomass for biofuels production and in the valorization of a platform of lignin-derived phenolics to valuable aromatic compounds and polymers. In this seminar, I aim to highlight some of the structure-function studies of these enzymes.
