Title: Design and in vitro Evaluation of Potential CO-Releasing Molecules: a case study

Speaker: Ana C. Coelho

From: Post- Doc at Organometallic Chemistry Laboratory

Abstract:

Since the discovery that exogenous CO exerts beneficial therapeutic effects in tissues and cells, that the searching for compounds able to deliver the right amount of CO to diseased tissues (CO-Releasing Molecules) has been an important research topic. Metal Carbonyl is the chemical class of compounds which has provided most CO-releasing molecules. The design, synthesis and in vitro evaluation (stability, carbon monoxide releasing properties and cell toxicity) are key steps in the identification of the best metal carbonyl scaffolds for drug-like CO-Releasing Molecule. A case study based on molybdenum tetracarbonyl complexes with saturated monodentate and bidentate amine ligands will be presented and analyzed. Furthermore, approaches to analyze the interaction of such small molecules with biological receptors, such as albumin and apo-Transferrin, will be presented.
