Title: A brief journey into the nanoworld of proteins
Speaker: Margarida Archer
From: Head of Membrane Protein Crystallography Laboratory
Abstract:
A brief journey into the nanoworld of proteins
In this seminar, the various steps involved in Crystallography will be
briefly described. X-ray crystallography is a technique that allows the
determination of the three-dimensional structures of biological
macromolecules. This experimental technique is based on the X-ray
diffraction analysis of crystals. It enables the visualization of
protein structures at the atomic level and enhances our understanding of
protein function. Structural biology plays a pivotal role in modern
biology, both in the fundamental understanding of living things and in
the design of new treatments for diseases.
Examples of protein structures solved in our Laboratory will be
provided and their structure-function relationship highlighted.
