Title: Engineering Biomolecular Affinity

Speaker: Roberto Lins

Affiliation: Instituto Aggeu Magalhães, Oswaldo Cruz Foundation, Brazil

Host: Prof. Cláudio M. Soares, Protein Modeling

Abstract:

Protein engineering is directed towards finding or tunning properties of a specific system. However, conformational instability of the engineered chimeras often leads to loss of native conformation followed by degradation and/or aggregation, therefore limiting success rate. To overcome this issue, we have devised a protocol that combines de novo and molecular dynamics techniques to address biomolecular affinity in a predictive manner. The talk will showcase examples in how to design antigen-antibody interactions, enzyme catalysis and protein adhesion to cardiac devices and mineral surface.
