Title: Iron catalysis with hydrosilanes and hydroboranes.
Speaker: Jean-Baptiste Sortais
Affiliation: Centre of Catalysis and Green Chemistry, University of Rennes, France
Host: Beatriz Royo
Abstract:
Notable efforts have been devoted to the development of efficient catalytic reductions employing benign and environmentally abundant bio-relevant metals such as iron, which is a good alternative to the precious transitional metals, like Ru, Rh and Pd. Recently, we have successfully developed and applied various iron complexes, notably N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) iron complexes, for the selective hydrosilylation of aldehydes, ketones, imines, esters, and amides, as well as for hydroboration reactions.
Short biography:
Jean-Baptiste Sortais was educated at the “École Normale Supérieure de Lyon” (France). He received his MSc in organic chemistry from the “Université Louis Pasteur”, Strasbourg, where he completed his PhD in 2007 under the supervision of Dr. M. Pfeffer, working on the synthesis of chiral cycloruthenated complexes and their catalytic applications. After a first postdoctoral stay with Pr. J. E. Bäckvall at Stockholm University (working on dynamic kinetic resolution catalysed by transition metals complexes and enzymes), he then joined the group of Pr. G. Erker at the University of Münster to work in the field of Frustrated Lewis pairs. In 2009, he was appointed as an associate professor at the “Université de Rennes 1”. His research is mainly focused on the design and development of new complexes based on earth abundant metals for catalysis.
