Abstract: How can biotech startups bring new products to market? They are tightly constrained by capital, absence of physical assets, lack of infrastructure and none of their own production and development facilities. Essentially, they are forced to subcontract all technical development activities to external parties. This development operating model requires different strategies compared to established pharmas and execution of these strategies is also specific to the startup company. I will illustrate, with case studies, the scientific/technical but also business and management challenges that the biotech startups are facing and, for some lucky ones, successfully over coming to bring innovative products and treatment solutions to patients.
