ITQB NOVA celebrates International Fascination of Plants Day
On May 18th, ITQB NOVA is going to Mercado Municipal de Oeiras to celebrate the International Fascination of Plants Day. The event, open to the public, will showcase the intricacies and wonders of plants that remain invisible to the inattentive eye.
ITQB NOVA and Sociedade Portuguesa de Biologia de Plantas are the national coordinators of this biannual event, now in its 7th edition, organized by the European Plant Science Organisation (EPSO). With activities from the north to the south of the country, the Fascination of Plants Day aims to attract different audiences to the fascinating world of plants and show them how important and indispensable they are. In 2022, more than 800 events were held around the world, in more than 50 countries.
This year the event comes back to Oeiras with a program featuring a variety of interactive and educational activities. These include scientific stands, story time for children and youngsters and an Origami atelier in partnership with the GATAfunho bookstore, guided tours of the Oeiras Historical Centre to recognize plants, a clay workshop with Livraria-Galeria Municipal Verney, as well as a special menu at the "Chá da Barra" restaurant. There will also be talks with researchers on current topics related to plant diversity and a participatory visit to the "Oeiras Experimenta" field.
The event will take place between 10am and 5pm at Mercado Municipal de Oeiras, with activities in the Historic Center of Oeiras and at the Estação Agronómica Nacional - Oeiras. The guided and participatory tours will depart from Mercado Municipal de Oeiras. Entry is free and everyone is welcome.
