Paula Alves awarded with Gold Medal of Merit by Oeiras Municipality

Paula Alves, CEO of iBET and Professor at Universidade NOVA (ITQB, FCT), was awarded with the Gold Medal of Merit by the Oeiras Municipality. The Medals of Merit aim to reward individuals or institutions that stand out for their valuable and notable contribution to Oeiras municipality and community.
Paula Alves was recognised for her prominent international career in science and leadership in biomanufacturing and advanced biotherapeutics, bridging the gap between academia and industry. Regarding the recognition, Paula says “It is an honour to receive this medal from the Mayor and the municipality recognizing my contribution to Science and Technology and to Oeiras Municipality.”
GenIbet Biopharmaceuticals, a spin-off company from iBET, was also awarded a Municipal Gold Medal of Merit, received by its CEO, Raquel Fortunato. This award is a recognition of the scientific excellence of GenIbet which, over the last 15-years, has attracted numerous international companies to visit and invest in Oeiras. With a team of more than 50 highly qualified professionals, more than 20% PhD-holders, GenIbet is the first Portuguese company certified by INFARMED for the manufacturing of biologics and biopharmaceuticals for phase I/II clinical trials.
The Municipal Medals were awarded on 7th June, at a solemn ceremony held at Cascata do Taveira, Estação Agronómica Nacional.
