BIOELECTRO-CO2
BIOELECTRO-CO2
- CO2 is the most abundant greenhouse gas and is the major contributor to the greenhouse effect and climate change.
- Microbial electrosynthesis system (MES) is a renewable and green technology that uses electroactive microbial catalysts to mineralize and treat different wastes including CO2.
- Capturing CO2 gas to produce valuable compounds can not only minimize the carbon footprint but also help to shift from fossil fuels towards renewable energy resources.
- This project will develop a new MES system using biocatalysts both at the anode and cathode to simultaneous treat CO2 while oxidizing a carbon waste, along with bioproduction of chemicals making the process more energy and cost efficient.
