Human intervention studies of highly antioxidant fruits
The main goal of this research area is to evaluate protective effects of berries bioavailable metabolites in human neurodegenerative diseases. For that, it will be used human plasma collected after an intervention study with berry mixture to mimetize the bioavailable metabolites that reach the brain.
Main tasks:
- Assessment of Portuguese consumption on berries, other fruits and vegetables by a semi-quantitative food frequency questionnaire
- Intervention study to evaluate the bioavailability parameters for the active metabolites and their effects on redox status of human plasma
