Maria Faustino
Maria Faustino is a PhD student from the Plants For Life PhD Program, since 2019
Maria V. Faustino graduated in Biology by Univ. Aveiro and has an MSc in Biochemistry.
In her Ph.D. Project Maria is studying vitamin B1 and B2 biosynthetic pathways in rice, centering her attention on the identification of the rate-limiting enzymes in both biosynthetic pathways as well as on the identification of vitamin B1 transporters. Maria's Ph.D. project's ultimate goal is to multibiofortify rice with B1 and B2 vitamins through metabolic engineering, aiming to contribute with a solution for the hidden hunger problem. This work is being performed in collaboration with Dominique Van Der Straeten lab at U.Ghent (Belgium).
