Molecular Epidemiology of Staphylococci
Staphylococcus aureus and coagulase-negative staphylococci (CoNS) are responsible for nosocomial and community-acquired infections worldwide. In our laboratory we use several molecular typing techniques to understand the population structure of these pathogens and track their dissemination. The techniques we use include mainly sequenced based methods, like whole genome sequencing, multilocus sequence typing (MLST), spa typing and ccr typing, but also PCR-based methods like SCCmec typing. In addition we use pulsed-field gel electrophoresis (PFGE).
