Applications for ITQB NOVA masters are open
Oeiras, 02 February 2024
Applications to ITQB NOVA Master Programmes are open! Our programmes in Computational Biology and Bioinformatics (MCBBI), Biochemistry for Health, Medical Microbiology and Science Communication are taught with a hands-on approach that allows students to learn directly from researchers who are breaking new ground every day.
You can get to know more about our master's and chat with students at the largest Masters and Postgraduations fair - Unlimited Future - on February 22nd- and "Step into your future: Open Day" for university students on March 7th.
Masters at ITQB NOVA are developed with the best partners in each field and in close connection with the industry. Our students benefit from a varied approach, learning tools that go beyond their fields, such as how to better communicate science, prepare a grant application and support technology transfer to industry. The thesis is carried out in state-of-the-art laboratories, run by multidisciplinary and multinational scientific teams. International students will feel right at home, as most programmes are taught in English whenever non-Portuguese speakers are attending. Our warm yet competitive environment allows for personalised student support, to help each of you find your own path, during and after the course.

MSc in Computational Biology and Bioinformatics
The MSc in Computational Biology and Bioinformatics (MCBBI) of Universidade NOVA de Lisboa provides multidisciplinary training in the interface between Life Sciences and Information Technology. It aims to provide solid skills in gathering novel biomedical knowledge through computational approaches, indispensable to bring innovation in different areas of Biomedicine, such as drug discovery, optimization of treatment schemes or Personalized Medicine, and to aid in the design and optimization of biotechnological processes. Graduates can follow career paths in education and research and development areas (R&D) in national or European service industries.
This advanced course is implemented by five complementary NOVA Schools: NOVA School of Science and Technology (FCT NOVA), Instituto de Tecnologia Química e Biológica António Xavier (ITQB NOVA), NOVA Information Management School (NOVA IMS), NOVA Medical School (NMS) and Instituto de Higiene e Medicina Tropical (IHMT NOVA).
1st phase: 2 February - 22 March 2024
2nd phase: 3 June - 17 July 2024
MSc in Biochemistry for Health
The Master Programme in Biochemistry for Health gives students the opportunity to gain strong basic knowledge in Biochemistry, especially in its interface with Biophysics, Biology, Biotechnology, Chemistry (particularly with a pharmacological perspective), and Social Sciences. The programme relies on the strong scientific and educational expertise to access multidisciplinary areas of research and development in several sectors of industry and services related to Human Health, including the Pharmaceutical Industry, Clinical Analysis, and Biotechnology.
The Master Course is a collaboration within Universidade NOVA de Lisboa, involving ITQB NOVA, NMS and FCT NOVA.

MSc in Medical Microbiology
The Master Programme in Medical Microbiology trains specialists with a multidisciplinary and global view of the sector. The goal of this theoretical and practical training, with particular emphasis in the area of molecular microbiology applied to Medical Microbiology, is to keep updating knowledge in order to improve professional capabilities in the areas of clinical and laboratory microbiological diagnosis; and to lead towards the optimization of the functional link between the microbiological diagnostic laboratory and clinical practice and therapeutic decision.
This is a collaborative Master Programme from Universidade Nova de Lisboa initiated in 2003 and involving ITQB NOVA, the IHMT, NMS and FCT NOVA.
6 May - 19 July
MSc in Science Communication
With an essentially practical approach, the course covers the application of different communication tools to science communication in three major domains: journalism, institutional communication and education. The course takes place in Portuguese and faces science communication from an essentially practical perspective, considering three main communication channels: research institutions, educational institutions, and the media. In addition to those responsible for the different curricular units, the Master in Science Communication counts with the participation of Portuguese scientists and science communicators.
The Master Course in Science Communication is a collaborative project of NOVA FCSH and ITQB NOVA.
