Best communication prize
Oeiras, 01.07.10
On the second annual meeting of the Marie Curie network "Structural Biology of Membrane Proteins", held in Basel (Switzerland, 8-10 June), Przemyslaw Nogly, a PhD student from the Membrane Protein Crystallography Laboratory at ITQB, was awarded "the best (oral and poster) communication prize" among ca 25 students present in that meeting.
The presentation was about his research work on the structural characterization of a bifunctional enzyme, involved in the production of di-myo-inositol phosphate, a compatible solute assumed to play an important role in the thermoprotection of cellular components in vivo. The enzyme was isolated from Archaeoglobus fulgidus, a hyperthermophilic archaeon able of grow at around 90 ºC. This work was developed in collaboration with the Cell Physiology & NMR Lab (Helena Santos & Nuno Borges).
