Cláudio M. Soares is the new Pro-rector for NOVA Health

Cláudio M. Soares, Leader of the Protein Modelling Laboratory at ITQB NOVA and former Dean of the institute, is the new Pro-rector for the Strategic Platform NOVA Health. This interdisciplinary university platform aims to create value in health through scientific production, innovative solutions and knowledge dissemination, as well as promoting collaboration between NOVA's academic units and with external partners in science, industry, society and policy stakeholders. 

C. M. Soares is a Full Professor at ITQB NOVA. His team works on protein modelling using computational biophysical methods, extensively collaborating with experimental colleagues, and developing research in a variety of areas, from methods to research with biotechnological and biomedical applications. The Protein Modelling Laboratory leads a Consortium of 7 Laboratories in Portugal and Spain, in a La Caixa Foundation project to build a platform to rapidly identify viruses that might cause a new pandemic.

C. M. Soares is also the Coordinator of the Molecular, Structural and Cellular Microbiology – MOSTMICRO-ITQB Research Unit, evaluated as Excellent by the Portuguese Funding Agency Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia, I.P. He was Dean of the Institute from 2013 to 2023, and Vice-Dean from 2005-2008 and 2011-2013.
