iGEM - International Genetically Engineered Machine Competition kickoff session

Portuguese students will participate for the first time in the International Genetically Engineered Machine Competition.

This year, Universidade NOVA de Lisboa and ITQB NOVA are organizing the first-ever Portuguese team for iGEM, the International Genetically Engineered Machine Competition, and its Boston based Jamboree.

The iGEM kickoff session takes place next Tuesday, 3 March, 3 PM in the ITQB NOVA Auditorium, with the head of iGEM Europe, Nemanja Stijepovi, and the leader of the iGEM team for UCM Madrid in 2018 and 2019, Fran Quero. The session starts with a talk by ITQB NOVA PI and Universidade NOVA de Lisboa Pro-Rector Isabel Rocha, on 'What is Synthetic Biology and how can we use it to promote sustainability?'.

The International Genetically Engineered Machine (iGEM) is a worldwide synthetic biology competition in which hundreds of high school and university teams compete with original projects that they developed. iGEM started in January 2003 as an independent study course at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and it has grown to 353 teams in 2019, reaching more than 40 countries.
