ITQB NOVA at the NOVA Science & Innovation Day 2024

Talent, interdisciplinarity and impact: these are the keywords that guide the program of the NOVA Science & Innovation Day 2024, an event that shares with the academic community and wider public an overview of NOVA University’s impactful research and its contributions to innovation and society.
Fernando Alexandre, Minister of Education, Science and Innovation, is expected to attend the opening session (to be confirmed).
In the morning, ITQB NOVA PI Mariana Pinho will present her research within the ERC Advanced Grant on finding the missing links in the bacterial cell cycle. Also, the ITQB NOVA PI Ricardo Louro will participate in a session dedicated to interdisciplinary research, discussing his project BIOCIRCLE: Crops to Biomethane Production. Not to forget the announcement of the call “Ignition grants for interdisciplinary research at NOVA", powered by Fundação Santander Portugal, as well as the announcement of the winner of the 2024 edition of the NOVA Research Impact Narratives.
In the afternoon, the event will highlight Citizen Science projects developed at the University, including ITQB NOVA’s “Programa Ciência + Cidadã”, led Maria João Leão in collaboration with the Oeiras Municipality, and a session focused on Innovation and Value Creation, including presentations by the ITQB NOVA members Pedro Pedrosa, who will present DxHub project, and Ana Pina, working on collagen-based biological batteries as a power source for electronic skin devices.
The event will conclude with a roundtable discussion on the impact of Artificial Intelligence on research and innovation, featuring renowned external experts.
ITQB NOVA PhD students André Cairrão, André Taborda and João Reis will also be showcasing their work at the Innovation Fair and a poster session taking place in the Rectory’s atrium throughout the day: "Volatile Profiles and Antimicrobial Activity of Asparagopsis armata Extracts: Insights for Biotechnological Applications", "A new chemo-enzymatic approach to synthesize rare sugars using an engineered glycoside-3-oxidase” and "Oeiras Experimenta: ITQB and Oeiras Municipality Partnership Towards Climate-Smart Crops", respectively.
