QUALIFICATIONS

My qualifications include an undergraduate degree in Marine Biology and PhD specialisation in biology and ecology of invertebrates; an extensive skillset of experimental design, data analysis techniques, and in-depth biological knowledge.

RESEARCH

My professional path has been primarily researching and lecturing. As a result, I have a solid research and publication record, coordination and participation at 14 international conferences and collaborations in 11 national and international projects. I am an internationally-recognised expert on aquatic biology and ecology, hence I am a regularly invited reviewer for 14 ISI journals of Biology and Ecology areas. My research in biology lies in fundamentally outlining aquatic ecosystem functioning processes and associated management solutions within climate change scenarios.

LECTURING

I lectured between 2011-2018 the disciplines of Environmental Impact, River restoration, Biology, and regularly on other topics as part of Master programmes.

I am passionate about efficient scientific communication and have alone developed and since 2011 lectured (in English) courses (48 hr each) at national and international universities on “Writing scientific papers-beginner and advanced levels”, “Writing successful project proposals” and “Experimental Factorial Design”. The courses have accumulated participation of > 1500 participants of highly diverse research areas who have consistently marked them as “Excellent and Very Useful” and, I have over 5000 contact-hours of teaching in national (PT and international universities). I particularly focus on arming students with practical knowledge and experience to enable writing independence.

EXPERT EVALUATOR

Since 2016, I’m a regularly invited Review Panel Member and expert evaluator for COST Actions in the biology panels.

PROJECT AND SCIENCE MANAGER

I’m currently (since 2018) the Project and Science Manager of the Twinning project TIMB3 (http://www.itqb.unl.pt/timb3/ ) at ITQB-NOVA. Here I’m responsible for: i. overseeing and coordinating the project activities; ii. Lecture courses on scientific writing and experimental design; iii.collaborations with the Science Funding Office.
