My research interests revolve around the study of the molecular determinants of resistance to radiation and oxidative stress in the cell, for which we use the extremely resistant organism Deinococcus radiodurans as a model organism. I am also interested in the study of human RuvB-Like proteins, which have roles in major pathways in the cell, but are also involved in mechanisms of oncogenesis, metastisation and resistance of tumour cells to treatment. To tackle these issues, I employ various techniques for the structural determination of macromolecules, and observation of cells. These include mostly X-ray crystallography and electron microscopy, but our group also uses SAXS, NMR, X-ray imaging and many other techniques available at the home lab or though access to synchrotrons. Our structural studies are complemented with biochemical analyses, such as activity measurements, electrophoretic mobility shift assays and stability assessment of the target proteins by differential scanning fluorimetry. | ||
