Laboratory Waste
At ITQB, as in any research institute, researchers work with potentially hazardous materials including chemical, radiological, and biological agents. ITQB has strict measures for researchers dealing with laboratory reagents. These includes storage, labelling and use of hazardous materials, disposal of hazardous waste, pollution prevention and waste minimization, use of hazardous materials substitutes, and response to hazardous materials spills. The ITQB’s Safety and Floor Committee is in charge of implementing standards and procedures of laboratory work and oversees that all these procedures are respected. The committee meets regularly and provides information sessions for researchers.
